White Christmas: overrated
December 25th, 2009 ~ Just a slice of heavenUgh! Who ordered in the blizzard?
I told Greg to take a picture for blog-sharing while I got ready for the day, and he took this one:

But I felt like that didn’t tell the whole story, because this storm has been notable for the high winds. So consider that THIS is what our porch looks like:

And, more alarmingly, THIS is what it looks like before I even open the door!

When the storms want to come inside, that’s bad. And when we suggest to Clementine that she might enjoy romping around in the snowdrifts up to her chest … well, …

… sometimes the nice thing about being a dog is that you don’t have to say anything.
Just wanted to share things from this side of glory. Merry Christmas, all! Christ is born!

Brrrrr! I’ve been in wind chill. No thanks. I’ll take 4 inches of sunshine any day.

Ah, such happy memories of when we lived at Ft. Riley….
We never had snow that bad, but we had dust storms that left inches of orange dust inside the house!~
But I always reminded myself:
At least you’re not living in a hole in the ground under your overturned Conestoga wagon while waiting to finish building your sod house…..

I’m getting cold just thinking about the wind.
That is a very cute doggie. I’ve only seen line drawings of her in the past.
Stay warm.

I’d like to feel all sad and sorry, but there is something just grand about being snowed in, as long as the electricity stays on and you’re loaded up with food (which we are). And in this case, we’ve also got Christmas books, games and goodies to dive into and we’re (oh dear) just stuck inside alllll day. (Insert emoticon of big, stupid, sausage-eating grin)

Oh, my, that is such an expressive look on Clemmie’s face — almost a Look at that. Can’t believe you managed to catch it so perfectly.

Sort of looked to me like, “Are you out of your flippin’ minds? Close the darn door!” (She’s a good dog, so I don’t think she ever says anything stronger than ‘darn.’)

I keep coming back to your blog so I can look at the pictures. What a great house you must have. What a great area to live in.
We loved our time at Riley! (In spite of Desert Storm) We lived in an old limestone house built in the 1880’s. I loved every square inch of it. We had to make a trip there in October and it was being renovated, so we were able to go in and walk around. Gosh it was a good life there.

I am so with you, Grace. There is something cozy about being inside and having good food and reading great books while there is a winter wonderland outside. (I just don’t like the thought of having to shovel; that is not fun.) I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.
By the way, I forgot to tell you in my previous comment that you also influenced me a bit in terms of the Psalms I have memorized. A while back I saw your quote from Psalm 63 at the top of your blog, and I loved it so much that I decided to memorize the entire Psalm.
I hope you have a wonderful New Year and that you experience a renewed sense of hope. (And I say this knowing that experiencing a sense of hope and peace is definitely hard during the difficult times.)

I agree, I like snow outside and me inside! And, then to have it go away quickly!
