‘Storm Worm’ continued
August 17th, 2008 ~ Culture gone madFollowing up to that last post about the virus e-mail I’ve been getting, I got a (real) e-mail from MSNBC’s Website in response to my suggestion that they post a warning on their site about the spurious e-mails. Well, no such luck with my suggestion, but at least I’ve got a little more info now. And no — major sigh of relief — it’s for sure that I didn’t download the ‘Storm Worm’ virus and infect my computer.
According to this article from , if you click on the “headline” link, you go off to a page that looks like this:

That page makes you think that you won’t be able to see the video you want unless you click the OK button, but if you do that you download the “malware” — the virus-spreading executable file, and at that point your nice little computer has joined The Borg and you’re not the boss of what it’s going to be used for.
The article says that a week ago the volume of these e-mails was about 1.5 to 2 million messages per hour, and their remark is something like, “Ho hum. Call us if it gets to be as big as the other viruses we’ve seen.” Good grief!
