Stand back. I’m thinking

May 14th, 2007 ~ Potpourri for 100, Alex

Steven tagged me as a “thinking blogger.” Like him, I’m inclined to think that getting honors for thinking just means that either we’re all little geniuses or no one is.

So now according to “the rules” (which I’ll reprint at bottom, since that’s rule #2), I’m to turn around and tag five other Thinking Bloggers.

But what is a Thinking Blogger? Going back to the original post — HERE – didn’t help me much. The author there seems to feel that it doesn’t need defining. Is it a blogger who pursues Deep Thought, or one that just writes about, you know, stuff — what sweater they like, a new word their toddler learned, something they heard on the radio? The secret truth about the blogosphere — or one of them anyway — is that those things can actually be quite profound. Hearing from people that don’t consider themselves extraordinary writing about things they don’t consider terribly significant can have an effect that’s both extraordinary and significant.

So if I’m tagged to list five blogs that make me think, I’d have to include some that probably didn’t set out to do that. Those can be both sweet and moving, but they also can plant little seeds of sympathy, wonder, joy and sorrow that may take days to germinate. And of course the ones that chase big thoughts can also do that and more.
So, on to the list (and like Steven, once I started I couldn’t keep it down to five):

  1. Molly’s “Close to Home” - HERE
  2. Alana’s “Morning Coffee” - HERE
  3. Jan’s “World of Speculation” - HERE
  4. “The Anchoress” - HERE
  5. Fr. Mike’s “The Abandoned Mind” - HERE
  6. Orthodoxy Today’s blog - HERE

So I mixed it up okay, right? I’ve got mostly women, mostly laity, mostly Orthodox and mostly non-professional blogs, but I’m still eclectic. I Think (< -- seems to me that as a certified Thinking Blogger, I get to capitalize the word 'think' from now on, right?) that sounds just about right.
In keeping with the requirements of the meme, here are the rules:

  1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think, [Done]
  2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme, [Done, but in case you missed it — Link HERE]
  3. thinkingblogger.jpgOptional: Proudly display the ‘Thinking Blogger Award’ with a link to the post that you wrote (here is an alternative silver version if gold doesn’t fit your blog). [Ugh. It looks like an alien. I may display it anyway just to spruce things up, but I will secretly long for a better icon.]

I think I’m impressed with this post! :)

No, you Think you’re impressed. As another award-winner, I believe you’re entitled to the same capitalization. By golly, there ought to be some perks to this, right?

Ah yes, the BIG “T”…. now that’s Orthodox! :)
