Pope John Paul II

April 1st, 2005 ~ La Vida Iglesia

Though the Vatican has denied reports that the Pope has died, it seems that his death is imminent at this point.

So first, condolences and best wishes to any Catholics that may be reading this. I’ve heard several people who know better than I say that it’s very unlikely that we will see another pope so devout and true to the Roman Catholic faith. Though I encounter all manner of responses to him, as do we all, I think it’s nearly impossible for anyone to overlook the impact that he has had.

Second, I’m finding great comfort for all that ails me in listening to Fox News carry coverage of the rosary. They are translating the talks given by various clergy and the prayers of the rosary itself. Fox commentator Shepard Smith is asking questions of a Catholic commentator regarding the meaning of the prayers, and adding his own observations about the comforts to be found in reflecting on sentiments like one statement that “Christ is throwing open the doors of heaven to receive the Holy Father.” I found it to be a boon to my soul, still somewhat sickened by the events of Terri Schiavo’s death, to hear such things. And I think it’s wonderful that the Pope found time to minister to one more sinner.
