Playing with daylilies
July 8th, 2007 ~ Just a slice of heavenI realized yesterday that we’re coming to the end of the period when we get to watch our daylilies bloom, and so I thought I’d do a little Georgia O’Keeffe imitation.

No, not even close. Pretty, though. Of course, it doesn’t help things any that I’m not taking the trouble to actually paint these.
Unless you want to call fiddling around with Photoshop “painting.” On the whole, I don’t like the “artistic effects” that Photoshop can add with a mouse click. But it was a hot afternoon and I had a good Russian tea with cinnamon in it, so I sort of lost my head.
By the way, O’Keeffe said that the reason that she painted her flowers so big is so that others would see what she saw. In my case, it’s just to keep these things from looking quite so much of a waste of a Sunday afternoon.

I tend to like my daylilies young, tender, torn, and thrown into a salad. YUM! Just make certain you have DAYLILIES and not tiger lilies, which are poisonous.

I love #2 — very art deco looking. #1 and #4 are the most O’Keeffe-ish, though.

Yep, that’s what Greg said too, with #1 probably the favorite. The funny thing about that (but not funny ha-ha) is that that’s the one I did in a minute or so. Number 2 I was goofing around with for an hour. O, how I suffer for my art!
Art deco? Do you mean that one (very geometric — think Jeeves and Wooster covers) or Art Nouveau (very swirly — think the French cigarette papers posters)? Not like anybody cares, but you might have it on a Jeopardy question someday, and I don’t want you to freeze up.
