Off to chant and pray
July 10th, 2007 ~ Orthodox perspectiveJust thought I’d mention that I’ll be off in Antiochian Village till next week at the Sacred Music Institute. Ought to be fun — just like last year — but I’m not sure I’ll get blog opportunities, so I’ll see everyone when I get back. I’ll be the one who really knows how to do Tone 7!

Just remember the ipikima (sp?) is the first notes of the “Mr. Ed” theme song and you’ll do fine.

Oh, thanks a lot. Like I’ll be able to get THAT out of my head.
Actually, I don’t know how it is for Highly Trained Choir People, but if I can find a silly song starter like that, it often works better for me than the apichima. The problem is that other chanters looking at my book are likely to see “Hi ho, hi ho” or “Fly me to the moon” written in the margin. I’ll have to work on that. :-)

Still not as embarrassing as having to sing the first three notes of “Bali Hai” to remember what a seventh interval sounds like.
