No gay marriage in gay Paree

It seems strange to read that the French recently outlawed gay marriage. (Via Orthodoxy Today):

Paris, France (AHN) - In a landmark ruling, France’s highest court ruled the first marriage by a homosexual couple in the country was unlawful, thereby annulling the June, 5 2004 union between the two men. …

France’s Supreme Court, which ruled that under French law “marriage is a union between a man and a woman,” backed the earlier decision by an appeals court in Bordeaux, which also ruled against the men’s marriage.

I would love to think that this signaled some kind of rapprochement to Catholic morality. Alas, there’s another possibility that seems more likely — that the French are afraid of offending their sizable and restless Muslim population, who consider homosexuality a sin and consider Westerners to be immoral.

Can’t disagree with them on those two. Especially since they can look across the Channel and see the English reading gay fairy tales to four-year-olds.
