Meanwhile, back in France …

November 15th, 2005 ~ Current events

I couldn’t find the article myself, but Wall St. Journal’s Opinion Journal had this precious quote from an AP story about the slowly declining French riots:

Youths set fire to 374 parked vehicles before dawn Sunday, compared to 502 the previous night, police said. A week ago, 1,400 cars were incinerated in a single night.

If the downward trend continues, “things could return to normal very quickly,” National Police Chief Michel Gaudin said, noting that French youths burn about 100 cars on an average Saturday night.

100 cars set on fire is average??? Apparently, les garcons will be les garcons. Sure am glad the French see fit to tell everyone else how to run their country. Theirs is obviously paradise.

OK, so let’s recap: I couldn’t get Le McDonald’s in Paris to make me a special cheeseburger, but now they’ve got the energy and gumption to torch 100 cars a night?

I, for one, am pleased with the new-found industriousness of our Franco-coward brethern!

Well, make no mistake, it’s the emigres who have it takes to keep lighting up Renaults. Too bad that the only ones with any gumption are the guys who are PO’ed.

As for your dang cheeseburger — can we all just move on? I don’t know why you would think you could eat *anything* in a country where they put mayonnaise on their fries.
