Hillary does Ebonics
March 5th, 2007 ~ Political circusWho in the world told Hillary Clinton that it would be a good idea for her to attempt an “old folks at home” drawl when speaking at a church in Selma, Alabama? Especially if she wasn’t prepared for one instant to part with her honking, stentorian monotone.
Here’s a LINK if you haven’t already heard it. It has to be heard to be believed.
Man, I wish I was Hillary’s campaign manager. I’d tell her to do readings from “Gone with the Wind” with her hair up in a kerchief. I mean, sure, she’d lose and I’d get fired. But it would be worth it.

There is a lot about Hillary I don’t understand.

Well, in here defence she is from Arkansa, and you know the old saying…you can thake the girl out of the trailer park…..
(Just for the record I write this as one who lived in a trailer park while in colege, so I do understand that not all who live in a trailer park have family tress that are a straight line or are master chefs at cooking Meth)

Robert:
No, you’re right of course. It’s just a generalization for fun, and hopefully we all know enough to judge not the trailer denizens lest they judge us (or something like that).
I know she lived in Arkansas for years, but her natural accent says East Coast to me. Talk loud, flatten out the A’s, manage to honk your way through most of the other vowels — in that way, she’s an ideal New York senator. Talks like she’s been hailing cabs all her life.

I don’t know which bothers me more, the times when I can’t figure her out, or the times when I can.
In this case, she went to the Selma church to commemorate a big civil rights event, and it was already news that she was there along with Obama. So of course the name of the game was to sound as “black” as possible. (There’s tape of Obama sounding more, um, “country” than I’ve ever heard him. But I couldn’t find it online.)
It’s really just politics as usual, and I’m not saying that there aren’t others on both sides of the aisle that aren’t out there trying to be all things to all people. The problems for Hillary are that:

I had to listen to your link - and that was not a woman from a border south state (though some would argue that point), allowing the repressed accent from her youth well up and come on out…. that was simply an act, and a poor one at that.
She would be better for her if she wouldn’t try that - it’s so very obvious.

Oh my gosh, I just re-read my post and with all my typo’s it clear to see that you can also take the boy out of the trailer park…..
I was in a hurry this morning, in my EMS class we are now doing clinical and I got the opportunity to do mine today at labor and delivery. I was fortunate to witness a vaginal birth and a C-section. It was truly amazing to get to look into a womb. Now granted the last time I was in one was 37 years ago, and even though this was a different location I had one of those Deja Vu moments like I had been here before.

That is very, very funny. Hillary is a north suburban Chicago girl — Park Ridge to be exact. I graduated from school the year she did and I assure you that we alls didn’t no way talk like she.
