Harisutosu Fukkatsu!

April 25th, 2006 ~ Orthodox perspective

Let’s avoid looking stupid this Paschal season. If a jubilant stranger comes up to you and says “Harisutosu Fukkatsu!” what are you going to say? “Back atcha, buddy.” “Domo origato, Mr. Roboto.” “I have mace and I’m not afraid to use it.”

No, of course not. You snap back with the Japanese response to the “Christ is Risen” greeting: “Jitsu Ni Fukkatsu!” He is risen, indeed!

I think it’s pretty standard to see one of these lists every year, but here on Orthodoxy Today is where you can study up for that big Orthodox World Tour you were planning. Czech, Finnish, Chinese — no problem!

(Actually, I feel like there are some missing — for instance, Ethiopian — so maybe someone knows a supplemental list? Not like you get to use most of these, of course, but it’s just fun to see all the different languages.)
