December 26
December 26th, 2005 ~ Just a slice of heavenDon’t you just love the day after Christmas?
I’m sitting here wearing a stupid baseball hat, since that’s the only way I’ve figured out to keep the stark winter light out of my eyes while I sit in my office. But to ameliorate my feelings of how dumb I look, I’m conducting scientific research to determine which of the assam teas in the Upton Tea sampler Greg gave me is the best one. So I’m having to brew cup after cup of top-rate assam tea. And make no mistake, the difference between the worst and the best will be negligible — basically every one of these eight teas are perfect. Still, one must be scientific.
And in the interest of science, one must also test the tea using Real World conditions. So, for instance, how is the tea after I’ve had a little Christmas fudge? Or pumpkin pie? Or chocolate covered espresso beans? (I don’t usually eat those beans, but they happen to be here for times when my work productivity could use a boost. So they don’t have anything to do with my tea consumption, but after the fudge and pie, I’m too lazy to take myself off and get anything else.)
I’m thinking of all kinds of stuff I’d like to blog about, and some I may actually get around to. I’ve managed to finish up the work I had to do. (One of the down-sides to working for yourself is that days when the rest of the world is on vacation are good days to catch up with where you wish you were.) And I’ve got a stack two feet high — I mean literally, two feet high! — of books in the next room that I have to make my way through. I don’t mean I think I’m going to read them in the next day or so; that’s just how long I think it’ll take me to figure out how I’m going to assign them to myself over the course of the year.
The dog, I believe, is still sleeping in the same sun spot in front of my desk. For right now, there aren’t any people walking around or geese honking overhead as they migrate, so Clementine can take the ease of the good watchdog on a break.
I hear the laundry slapping around a little in the dryer. It’ll be done shortly and I can take it upstairs. I’ll have to step over boxes to get it where it needs to go, but thank goodness, the garbagemen come tomorrow, and then we can begin that process of finding the floor after December 25.
Don’t you just love the day after Christmas?

I know I do…I just got home from finishing 200 sheets of drywall that I was supposed to complete over the weekend so they can be painted at 9:00pm tonight. I’m sitting here in my new flannel “Grinch” PJ’s working on the radio show, articles and catching up on blogs…but not my own.
