If you wish to be called wise …

February 11th, 2006 ~ Orthodox perspective

If you wish to be called wise, intelligent, and the friend of God, strive to present your soul to the Lord in the same state as you received it from Him: pure, innocent, completely undefiled. Then you will be crowned in heaven and the angels will call you blessed.

Is this what the [bleep] is going on?

February 10th, 2006 ~ Potpourri for 100, Alex

I made a comment yesterday that I don’t understand what kind of religion could allow these Muslim riots. But thinking it through, I realize that if I don’t understand the religion, I can at least understand the context a little. And if I play devil’s advocate with myself, I would have to admit that the […]

What the [bleep] is going on?!

February 10th, 2006 ~ Current events

It’s a mad, mad, mad, mad world. I liked the movie (that should’ve made the list of favorites). I don’t much care for the reality.
Here’s Michelle Malkin’s list of worldwide government and editorial cringing in the face of the … what, cartoon protesters? I don’t know what else to call them. For goodness’ sake, they’re […]

Inward peace

February 7th, 2006 ~ Orthodox perspective

I just posted a quote from St. Seraphim of Sarov that’s one of the best-known in Orthodoxy. As I’ve mentioned, I have to publish them as an entry in order to add them into the Quotes sidebar at right, and that section doesn’t allow for a very long quote. But my Daily Lives calendar had […]

NBC shocked and amazed

February 6th, 2006 ~ Current events

A new press release from NBC said the original release was erroneous and the Spears episode had not yet been written. “We value our viewers and sincerely regret if this misinformation has offended them,” the network stated.

Uh-huh. That’s what NBC said about backing off of the episode of “Will & Grace” set to air […]

February 5th, 2006 ~ Just a slice of heaven

Okay, I’ve never had to do one of these before, but since I’ve been tagged, so I guess I can do my time:

Four jobs you have had in your life
Letter-reader for Robert Schuller Ministries
Print spotter for a photography studio — you use dyes and a paintbrush to paint in the white dots made on the […]

More on the guano-storm over the Danish cartoons:

The Vatican managed to have it both ways:
In its first official comments on the caricatures, the Vatican, while deploring violent protests, said certain forms of criticism represent an “unacceptable provocation.”
“The right to freedom of thought and expression … cannot entail the right to offend the religious sentiment of […]

Gosh. Can’t they take a joke?

February 4th, 2006 ~ Current events, La Vida Iglesia

I’ve been noting the slowly escalating story of Muslims who are infuriated by anti-Muslim cartoons in a Danish newspaper. Predictably, fundamentalist Muslims were not amused (are they ever amused?) by these cartoons that made fun of the prophet Mohammed. And when I say “not amused,” I mean as in a “burning-down-the-embassy” lack of amusement.

It was […]
